All exercise is good for sleep, but according to a recent meta review of studies on sleep and exercise, practising high-intensity yoga twice a week is the most effective exercise to improve sleep quality - as published in this Independent article.

Cited alongside walking, resistance training and traditional Chinese practices like qi gong and tai chi, the meta analysis showed that yoga came out on top for improving sleep quality among those with sleep issues when performed twice a week for about 30 minutes and with high intensity. Benefits were seen in just 8 to 10 weeks.

Other recent studies found that exercising within 4 hours of bedtime can affect sleep quality.

At the Yoga Happy Hour in Wincanton, we tick all these boxes - dynamic yoga flow to increase the heart rate, breathwork and mindful techniques to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation response of the body) and a class at 4pm for an hour - so plenty of time before bedtime. If you can make the Friday Flow at 1pm, then that is two classes knocked out!

So if you suffer from poor sleep, then join us at the Balsam Centre on Wednesdays 4-5pm - our new term starts on Wednesday 10th September for 7 weeks - book your place: 07795182235.
